What is CBD?

CBD stands for cannabidiol found in the cannabis plant and discovered in 1940 is an ingredient that is being studied for its health benefits. Some of the benefits are thought to include reducing pain, acne, depression, anxiety, and other ailments and pains that affect people today. It is thought to have some anti cancer properties as well, so this is definitely something that needs further research, but as with all things be careful of sites and studies and carefully research yourself to find what works for you. That being said the compound derived from cannabis does look promising on the surface but a big question remains, if you do decide to try it yourself how much CBD should I take?

Great question and I did come across a local CBD provider: ZV Botanicals which sells CBD products. This information is according to the Instagram page for ZV Botanicals and wanted to share it to answer this important question: How much CBD should I take?

How much CBD Should I Take?

A good rule of thumb and this one is from ZV Botanicals is that it should be one milligram for every ten pounds. So, if you weigh 150 pounds, that would be 15 milligrams.

As you can see, the calculation is somewhat simple. According to ZV Botanicals “

A variety of factors come into play that impact how CBD impacts a person: cannabis experience, time of day, type of CBD (full spectrum vs isolate), and more. That’s why CBD dosage must be individually determined.

That being said, use this general calculation to help you determine a starting point. Start with a lower dose one week and then slowly increase it each week.

Can you overdose on CBD?

On first glance from a google search on overdosing on CBD, it looks like it may be difficult to overdose on CBD. As long as you stick to the general guidlines above it doesn’t seem like there should be any known overdose danger.

Interestingly it seems that you need extremely high doses on the order of many many times the amount listed above to get anything remotely coming to the danger zone of doses.

According to: Open Access Government

“Unlike other substances, the toxic dose (20,000 mg of CBD), is not widely considered to be lethal. It may be possible – in the same study mentioned above in Current Drug Safety, lethal doses were achieved in monkeys; but, this would be unethical to study in humans.

The general consensus among professionals and even the World Health Organization, is that in even in extremely large doses, CBD is likely to cause extreme drowsiness, lethargy, upset stomach, nausea and diarrhoea and other unpleasant, disorienting side effects, not death.”

Conclusion to how much CBD is enough

It seems like the small doses are measured as a milligram for every ten pounds of body weight and this should be a great starting point with minimal to no side effects expected. As with everything posted online do your research and I hope that this is a quick guide on where to start for learning how much CBD is enough to try. Good luck and stay healthy!
